What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are unsightly and sometimes painful dilations of the vessels in the legs. They can be small and minor, or relatively large, painful, and affect a patient’s quality of life. Dr. Ortleb treats superficial veins in her office with a procedure known as sclerotherapy. The small veins are injected with a solution, which causes irritation to the vessel lining, thereby leading to their resolution. To get the best results, compression stockings should be worn for 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
